What’s New On Google This Week?

Published on 06/07/2010 by Mykola Stepanyuk
Whether you want it or not, search engine optimization as part of the internet marketing strategy will always go hand-in-hand with search engines. Web masters and SEO experts need to be familiar with all the novelties, suggested or implemented by the developers of the major search engines, because the trends of search algorithms evolution are important to consider while developing and implementing a particular internet marketing concept.

Google, being one of the key representatives of the search engine market, is often treated as the etalon for SEO experts. Many internet marketing programs are optimized in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations, issued by Google. Thus, it could be a good idea to keep an eye on the news from this company, as it can be a valuable source of some hints and tips, you can use in your SEO efforts.

Every week Google publishes a message in its official blog with the highlights on the innovations, introduced during the previous week. This time we have the following novelties from Google announced:

1) New look of the Google homepage. Now it is possible for a user, who has an account with Google, to upload his own picture and set it as the background for the homepage. Of course, in terms of internet marketing, this can hardly be used in SEO. On the other hand, such steps from Google are called to increase the loyalty of users and encourage them to register and sign into their Google accounts. This, in its turn, translates into better understanding of how people are using Internet and, respectively, results in making internet marketing more deliberate and sophisticated experience.

2) Mobile applications appear in mobile search. The owners of Android-powered and iPhone mobiles, who look for specific mobile applications for their devices, will now see the direct links to the apps available right at the top of search results. Each entry is supplied with a title, price, publisher, and, surely, a link to the installation page of the chosen mobile application.

3) Spelling corrections suggests. Google correction option (Did you mean: …) is a known feature, which appears at top of the search results page, if a user misspelled a searched keyword or phrase, giving him a chance to redo the search with a properly spelled query. Now this hint of correct spelling will appear even earlier, pointing you to the correct word or phrase right at the moment you are typing your text in the Google search field. It will now be a part of Google Suggest, another useful feature, which suggests full search query as you type your search query letter by letter. This is done by Google in efforts to make search process quicker, taking you to the search results quicker and giving some chances to relax for your fingers.

We will go on following the news from Google and other companies, which might be useful or just interesting or amusing for everyone, involved in SEO and internet marketing.
