|
It is not necessary to prove the importance of relevant backlinks for the overall success of an internet marketing campaign. However, the concept “the more – the better” does not fit in here; besides, no one can tell you how many backlinks a particular web page needs to be popular and thus efficient. So, webmasters always need to balance between underlinking and overlinking when creating their own web pages or seeking for the sources of reciprocal links.
Underlinking and overlinking are basically opposite definitions, dealing with a number of hyperlinks on a single page. Overlinking can be explained as the situation, when a web page has too many hyperlinks on it, and underlinking refers to a situation, when a web page does not contain sufficient amount of links to easily and properly understand its content and interact with the web site.
Overlinking is closely related to a simple spam and it neither makes any good in terms of internet marketing nor improves the perception of the particular web page by a real visitors. Basically, choosing among backlinks sources, one should prefer the pages with fewer amounts of hyperlinks on it.
Underlinking in its turn results in the appearance of the so called dead-end pages (web pages with no links at all). Finally, evaluating backlinks sources, webmasters should also avoid placing their links on the pages, where “rel=nofollow” tag is used. This tag tells search engines not to consider the hyperlinks on the particular page, which means such backlinks will not do any good for your site in terms of ranking, relevance, popularity, etc.
