Backlinks are an important parameter in evaluating the value of the site by major search engines. Thus, backlinks creation is one of the favorite techniques of search engine optimization and Internet marketing. There many approaches to getting backlinks, from writing your own blog to posting articles on different article directories, and to catalogue submission. In order to assess the effectiveness of any backlinking project, you have to know exactly how many backlinks does your site have at a particular moment of time.
 
The easiest way to find out the amount of backlinks is to use a “link:” command. Just type “link:www.yoursite.com” into Google and you will receive the list of external links, leading to your web site.
 
Another approach is to use Google Webmaster Console. It ensures accurate results in regard of inbound links, so it can be used for the purposes of Internet marketing. Basically, this tool is better than “link:”, since it is more accurate and ensures more recent and updated information. However, remember that not all the backlinks are of the same value. Sometimes one link from the relevant and reputable site will value more than a dozen of links from irrelevant web directories.
