Forums > Website Content Management System (CMS) > CMS - Important Points to Consider - Part 3
|
Important points to consider for your content management system (CMS).
Revision control
This is most simply expressed as, does the CMS have an “undo" button? How many steps does it allow to be undone? Does it maintain a record of who made what changes?
User privileges
User privileges, or permissions, manage access to the tools, functions and information that the website offers to different users. Many CMSs assign permissions to an individual, for example Wally Hackett has these privileges, Rob Robertson has those privileges. Other systems permit permissions to be assigned to roles, which are in turn assigned to individuals.
Is it user friendly?
Make certain you are shown a demonstration of the CMS's user interface and you understand how to use it.
Standards compliance
On many occasions this is overlooked because it is invisible to most users, however, proper compliance with HTML, XML and W3C standards will improve your website's accessibility to disabled persons and will also help with your SEO procedures. Some CMSs produce graphic layouts using rigid templating systems that are quite often non-compliant with these standards.
